CyberGuard Unveils Higher Performance Security Appliances With New Features
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 23, 2004) – CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:CGFW), the technology leader in network security, today announced the release of newly enhanced versions of its Classic family of security appliances that include a higher performance FS series offering. The Classic family has now integrated Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP) support within its application layer gateway framework to facilitate advanced content filtering and scanning capabilities. Several other advanced features have been introduced including virtual local area network (VLAN) support and enhanced authentication features. These new features apply to the entire Classic family of appliances.
With ICAP, CyberGuard Classic appliances can now seamlessly integrate the antivirus and anti-spam components of CyberGuard’s Webwasher Content Security Management Suite. VLAN support allows administrators to connect network nodes physically located on different segments of a network and apply the same high degree of network security control to the “virtual group” treating them the same as if they resided on a single physical network segment. In addition, Classic appliances now provide advanced authentication features including extended password controls and enhanced user roles. The new FS600 appliance is the high-end performance model within the Classic Family FS series providing up to 1.2 Gbps of throughput. The FS300 and FS600 represent “entry level” appliances within CyberGuard’s enterprise product class.
“The FS600 is a perfect fit for small enterprises and regional offices of large organizations,” explained Bryan Bain, vice president of worldwide marketing for CyberGuard. “CyberGuard has a reputation for providing the highest level security, unparalleled technical expertise and accommodating customer requirements. The FS600 delivers CyberGuard-class security in a platform that is price-optimized for SME and enterprise edge deployments”. With the availability of an optional 6-port Gigabit Ethernet network interface card (NIC), the FS600 can now deliver throughputs similar to competitive products offered at more than twice the price. This architectural enhancement represents a dramatic increase over the 550 Mbps throughput available with the FS500 appliance it replaces. With this option, port density has also increased to eight with seven of the interfaces rated at Gigabit Ethernet. The faster FS300 model is also replacing the FS250 appliance.
