Nedbank Limited Deploys TippingPoint’s UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Systems to Protect Their Customers from Electronic and Identity Theft

AUSTIN, Texas – June 30, 2004 – TippingPoint Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: TPTI), the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced that the London branch of Nedbank Limited has deployed TippingPoint’s UnityOneâ„? Intrusion Prevention Systems to proactively secure their bank from cyber threats and identity theft. In the first week of operation, TippingPoint’s UnityOne blocked approximately 96,000 infected, malformed and other malicious packets coming from the Internet.

Paul Griffin, systems manager for Nedbank Limited, said, “With UnityOne, we’ve increased the protection we provide our customers against identity and electronic theft. TippingPoint’s Intrusion Prevention System has been very effective at preventing various viruses, worms and other cyber threats from entering our gateway. It’s more proactive than traditional security technologies.”

With its total packet inspection capabilities and remotely-updated Virtual Software Patches, UnityOne provides immediate protection against emerging threats. Hackers and worms attempting to exploit security holes will be blocked. In addition to shielding vulnerabilities through Virtual Software Patches, UnityOne protects against denial-of-service attacks with statistical anomaly filters. By deploying UnityOne, the bank has network protection against worms, viruses, Trojans, denial-of-service attacks and attacks on infrastructure such as firewalls and routers.

TippingPoint’s Vice President of International Operations Paul Couturier said, “With electronic theft rampant, it is critical that personal funds, monetary data and personal identification be as tightly guarded electronically as it is physically. TippingPoint has helped several financial institutions secure their networks, enabling them to provide their customers secure banking, investing and trading.”

TippingPoint’s UnityOne provides Application Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at gigabit speeds through total packet inspection. Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, UnityOne protects routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. UnityOne Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.

Nedbank is a subsidiary of Nedcor Limited, a bank holding company that operates as the fourth largest banking group by assets in South Africa. As of December 31, 2003, Nedcor had total assets of R312.6 billion.
