SafeGuard PDA with new Security Functions for Pocket PCs under Windows Mobile 2003
Oberursel, December 3, 2003 – Utimaco Safeware provides the SafeGuard PDA security solution for the Windows Mobile 2003 platform with new security functions. With this version, it is possible for the first time to log users automatically on to any VPN Client. Besides the authentication procedures such as password, symbol logon or biometric hand writing recognition, the new version of SafeGuard PDA for the first time supports the built-in fingerprint sensor of the devices HP IPAQ 545/555x as well.
Moreover, the encryption options for professional use in company environments have constantly been optimized. This way, the security settings are able to automate an encryption of the complete memory card to prevent unauthorized data export. By these new functions, SG PDA can optimally be integrated into company-wide security policies.
According to analyses by the Gartner Group, the loss and theft figures of PDAs amount to several ten thousand devices per year. At the same time, a current study of ComputerWeekly and Reed Exhibitions reveals an alarming carelessness of the device users. They are using the PDA for storing calendar data, passwords and company information without thinking about the protection of the valuable data. Moreover, more than every third user is already able to access the company network via PDA. The figures are even more alarming when considering that, according to the study, only 2% of the data on these devices is secured by adequate protection mechanisms.
