Cupertino, CA – October 21, 2003 — Trend Micro Inc. (NASDAQ: TMIC, TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security, has named Lane Bess, 42, president of North American operations.
Previously, Bess was senior vice president, North American sales, responsible for leading Trend Micro’s efforts to increase its North American market share, and for managing and developing the company’s extensive network of channel sales partners. In this new role, all operating units report to him and he is responsible for overseeing the continued success of Trend Micro’s business as a growth company in the security software sector.
“Lane has helped the North American business unit return to higher growth in a challenging economic climate,” said Steve Chang, chairman, president and CEO. “We are a global, transnational organization with a uniquely balanced regional business approach — we continue to make significant investments in our North American business, and look forward to Lane’s continuing leadership there.”
“Trend Micro will continue to lead the industry in North America at the gateway and server through considerable technical leadership and the ongoing introduction of innovative new products in antivirus, content security and spam prevention solutions,” said Lane Bess. “North American customer input across broad market segments, and a revitalized and intensified channel focus are central to our growth plans. As malicious code like MSBlast and SoBig, and other intrusions like spam threaten users, we will continue to focus the North American organization on market acceptance of our award-winning products, customer support and service.”
Bess has 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and general management with expertise in driving sales growth of computing and software solutions to Fortune 500 enterprises and small to medium businesses through channel partners and direct sales.
