Utimaco Safeware becomes active Member of Trusted Computing Group
New security architecture for Trusted Computing complements SafeGuard product line of Utimaco Safeware
Oberursel, July 15, 2003 – Besides Infineon Technologies and Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Utimaco Safeware has joined the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) as the third German IT company and as a European security expert. TCG, founded by Microsoft together with the hardware manufacturers AMD, HP, IBM and Intel, is an alliance of leading manufacturers with the objective of improving the trustworthiness of computers by a new security architecture on the hardware level. The SafeGuard product line of Utimaco Safeware will use this new technology and complement it with additional security functions.
The combination of the TCG technology with the SafeGuard products by Utimaco Safeware will offer customers in the enterprise field the option to make their PCs more secure and to administrate them with little expenditure only. In particular this will be a requirement for mobile devices such as notebooks. While the standard functions of a TCG client serve to protect software from software, e.g. in case of virus attacks, Utimaco Safeware´s SafeGuard Easy protects against the consequences of theft by means of secure authentication and complete encryption of the hard-disk.
The security chip to be integrated into the computer hardware following the TCG architecture can be used by SafeGuard Easy like an “internal smartcard” for cryptographic operations and for secure key storage.
