New Enterprise Version of SafeGuard PDA secures Pocket PCs and Pocket PC Telephones in Company Environments

Oberursel, May 7, 2003 – SafeGuard PDA by Utimaco Safeware is available in a new 2.0 version as Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition. By this extended security solution, Pocket PCs now can be integrated into company- wide security concepts in an efficient way. The PDA security system can be configured centrally and can be installed automatically area-wde an overall form. The secure authentication and encryption protects sensitive data in mobile environments from unauthorized access. Pocket PCs with GSM telephone function are perfectly secured by the new Enterprise Edition of SafeGuard PDA as well.

SafeGuard PDA Enterprise Edition prevents that Pocket PCs become a weak point in the company network. It offers companies a consistent and consequent realization of their security guidelines under central control.

The new, transparent PrivateDisk encryption module supports all kinds of memory cards and is interoperable with the PC version, so that all data remain protected in a platform-spreading way. Central recovery functions for the case of forgotten passwords over Challenge/Response or the optional use of x.509 certificates of existing PKI systems complete the Enterprise concept.

Further security functions are tailor-made especially for Pocket PCs with GSM telephone function. This way, numbers can be prepared which, in case of emergency, can be called at the Pocket PC telephone without logon. An unauthorized change of GSM SIM card can be blocked as well. Furthermore, the Enterprise Edition also allows the central control of the ActiveSync function as well as the Infrared use and provides further innovative security mechanisms.

First customer projects with the sales force of insurance and pharmacy companies have already been started.

Also O2 Germany – leading provider for telecommunication with an extensive net infrastructure of its own – relies on SafeGuard PDA for securing its Pocket PC-based Smartphone xda.
