France Telecom’s SNPI Division Calls On Ca’s Unicenter To Slash Operating Costs And Improve Quality Of Service
Global Telecom Subsidiary Improves Data Transfer Reliability and Realizes Annual Savings of More Than 200,000 Euro Since Deploying Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server
ISLANDIA, N.Y. and NANTERRE, FRANCE, June 17, 2002 – Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Service National de Production Informatique (SNPI), the in-sourced IT services provider for France Télécom, has chosen CA’s Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server (previously SOLVE:X.25) to optimize the transfer of critical, fixed-line telephone invoicing data.
France Télécom is a leading global telecommunications carrier with more than 86 million customers worldwide. SNPI is responsible for a large portion of IT production for the France Télécom group, including the installation of technical architectures, operations management and applications support.
In a review of the 50 data centers that provide call details for France Télécom’s invoice generation, SNPI determined that it could realize significant network infrastructure cost savings – without losing X.25 functionality – by replacing its SNA communications controllers with TCP/IP routers and Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server.
SNPI selected Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server to provide seamless X.25 emulation for existing mainframe applications that use the X.25 protocol, while supporting its newly deployed network routers. This eliminated the need for retaining previously installed SNA communications controllers, while streamlining SNPI’s network infrastructure. Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server also helped increase the reliability of SNPI’s mission-critical business systems and simplified network administration and troubleshooting, resulting in significant operational cost savings of more than 200,000 Euro per year.
“We haven’t had a single production stoppage since we installed Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server,” said Alain Le Méhauté, SNPI’s Operations Director. “The CA solution did not interrupt our normal production processing and we were able to conduct business as usual. Even more importantly, we didn’t have to change any of our applications, which was a major advantage and cost savings to us.”
“Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server enables Service National de Production Informatique to more efficiently leverage our X.25 infrastructure in support of critical business processes,” said Le Méhauté. “Given the pace of today’s business environment, we are also delighted with the ease and speed with which we were able to achieve our expected ROI using the Unicenter solution.”
“Service availability is crucial for large enterprises such as France Télécom that cannot afford even momentary production stoppages,” said Derek Masters, general manager, CA France. “We are pleased that the implementation of Unicenter TCPaccess X.25 Server has enabled France Télécom SNPI to greatly improve the reliability and cost effectiveness of its mission-critical X.25 infrastructure.”
