Web-based Training Accelerates Spread of Sidewinder High-Assurance Security Expertise Worldwide
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 30, 2001 – Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, today announced the availability of Sidewinder Web-based training. Executives, managers and administrators now have a convenient, cost-effective method to stay current on how to administer their high-assurance security policies and provide proper maintenance for their Sidewinder firewall and VPN gateway. Available from anywhere in the world around the clock, Sidewinder Web-based training offers a highly interactive, animated learning experience with simulated administrator tasks. Sidewinder Web-based training allows organizations to take full advantage of the firewall’s core functions and maintain an impenetrable shield against attacks.
Mike Rasmussen, senior industry analyst for information security at Giga Information Group, stated in his recent report FBI Security Advisory – A Lesson Learned in Poor Maintenance that, “Improper or lack of security maintenance on systems exposed to the Internet is the greatest external Internet-based threat most companies face.”
Developed in partnership with DigitalThink, the leading e-learning business solutions company, Secure Computing is launching its Web-based training program with two Sidewinder course offerings. The Sidewinder Product Overview course provides an introduction to Sidewinder’s core technologies, functions and design, and is recommended for managers or executives who require a functional or architectural overview of the product. The Sidewinder Basic Administration course, recommended for network, systems and security administrators, provides technical training on each of Sidewinder’s core security and administration functions. The new Web-based training courses augment Secure Computing’s classroom-based training to offer customers, distributors and VARS an industry-leading, comprehensive solution that accommodates their individual training needs.
As a further advancement over traditional Web-based training offerings, Sidewinder Basic Administration will be “tutor assisted.” If students have questions while working through the training course, they can send an email to Secure Computing’s dedicated security consultants who will respond with individualized content.
“With the availability of Web-based Sidewinder training, we have been able to train more of our administrators in network security topics with good tutorial supports without incurring additional expenses for travel,” said Jose Ojeda, IS manager for Owens-Illinois de Venezuela C.A.
Having never been compromised, only Sidewinder can rightfully claim the title “world’s strongest firewall.” Sidewinder delivers an impenetrable shield without sacrificing ease of use, reliability and scalability. Sidewinder’s hybrid architecture combines stateful inspection, application filtering, IPSec-certified VPN and real-time intrusion alerts into one simple software package. At the hardened core of Sidewinder is SecureOS(tm), a highly secure operating system built with Secure Computing’s patented Type Enforcement(tm) technology. The result is uncompromised network defense that is easy to deploy and manage across any enterprise.
“We recognize that even the strongest firewall, improperly configured and maintained, can expose an organization’s network to an unnecessary risk of attack,” said Paul DeBernardi, director of product marketing at Secure Computing. “As a result, we have invested heavily on behalf of our customers in pioneering Web-based firewall administration training. This first by Secure Computing enables every Sidewinder user to stay current on our firewall software, be it from their desktop, from home, or from any public Web kiosk.”
Pricing and Availability
Tuition for the Sidewinder Product Overview and Sidewinder Basic Administration courses is $250 U.S. and $1495 U.S. respectively. Both courses are available now through Secure or one of their worldwide resellers. For a complete description of the course offerings or to register, visit etraining.securecomputing.com.
