BALTIMORE BEDFORD, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 18, 2001–
Companies Combine Technology for Solid Wireless Security
Communications
Internet security leaders SafeNet, Inc. (Nasdaq: SFNT) and RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced that the companies have signed a strategic partnership agreement to create wireless VPN clients for the mobile marketplace based on RSA Security technology. The companies will contribute components of their field-proven technologies to provide end-to-end security for a variety of wireless Internet devices including personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, and pagers.
The powerful combination of RSA BSAFE(R) software and SafeNet’s SecureIP Technology(TM) is designed to help set the standard and provide a foundation to build secure wireless applications. With approximately one billion RSA BSAFE-enabled applications in use worldwide, customers, end users and OEMs can be assured that they are receiving the highest level of interoperability and connectivity available for wireless users trying to connect to access points.
According to Gartner Dataquest, shipments of PDAs and mobile phones will grow to a staggering 34 million by the year 2004. With the increase of organizations using wireless devices for vital business communications, the need for securing these m-commerce applications is emerging. Organizations must combat the new set of security threats that evolve with wireless communications including cloning, untrusted code, lost/stolen devices, theft of content, and denial of service. The combination of these field-proven technologies will be designed to provide users with high-performance mobile communications and trusted security.
“This strategic partnership with RSA Security will allow both organizations to take advantage of established marketing channels and best-of-class technological foundations. This relationship will provide extensive and proven solutions in the industry by utilizing RSA BSAFE software and SafeNet’s de facto VPN client,” said Rick Geritz, president and general manager of SafeNet. “RSA Security is a leader in securing the world of e-business and is an obvious choice for us to partner with to secure the quickly expanding mobile industry.”
“As we continue to expand our security expertise into the new mobile world, SafeNet will help us meet this goal,” said Bill McQuaide, vice president of product marketing at RSA Security. “We’ve partnered with SafeNet in the past to develop advanced solutions to integrate digital certificate technology with VPN technology. This latest agreement is the next logical step for the leaders in VPN and e-security to develop trusted security for mobile business communications.”
