Testing Lab; Advances to Premier Level of Citrix Business Alliance

Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC) (TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that its file server antivirus solution, ServerProtect(TM) 5, has earned certification for Citrix(R) MetaFrame(TM) 1.8 software.

WTS-Center, a German independent testing laboratory, certified that ServerProtect successfully met rigorous functionality and performance criteria.

Trend Micro’s ServerProtect provides comprehensive virus scanning throughout the network for file servers running Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 software and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Terminal Services or Windows NT(R) Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. With WTS-Center certification, customers are assured that Trend Micro’s ServerProtect antivirus solution will perform in the Citrix MetaFrame application-serving environment.

This certification also advances Trend Micro to Premier member status in the Citrix Business Alliance(TM) (CBA), a coalition of industry-leading companies from across the technology spectrum that work closely with Citrix to design and market complementary solutions for mutual customers.

To receive Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 certification, ServerProtect was put through a series of stringent performance tests including evaluation of ServerProtect’s load on the available processors during real-time, scan now and task scan options; its CPU and memory resource utilization when running the application; and the behavior of Terminal Server with 20 and 40 connected users.

“We are very impressed with ServerProtect’s functionality and performance characteristics, and are confident that ServerProtect 5 is well-suited for use on a Terminal Server with Citrix MetaFrame 1.8,” commented Siegfried Kinzel, technical manager, WTS-Center.

“Third-party certification testing, like that from WTS-Center, is always a valuable proving ground for Trend Micro’s products,” said Oscar Chang, senior vice president of product development at Trend Micro. “Having an antivirus solution certified for Citrix MetaFrame v1.8 demonstrates our commitment to providing best-of-breed solutions that are designed to work in the most demanding enterprise environments.”

“With mainstream adoption of the Citrix application server computing model, there has been corresponding growth in demand for antivirus solutions that work seamlessly in this environment,” said Bruce Cabral, director of the Citrix Business Alliance. “We welcome Trend Micro to the Premier level of the CBA as a member with technologies that can help to meet the growing need for enhanced server-based virus protection.”

The WTS-Center is a joint project of Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, UUNET, Cisco, T-Mobile, and asp4you. The testing center tests and certifies applications based on the level of execution and feasibility in a Windows Terminal Server topology.

ServerProtect detects and removes known and unknown viruses on the fly, manages multiple servers and domains, and features automated, incremental pattern file updates, event reporting, and configuration that can be controlled through a remote Web-based or Windows-based console.
