Nokia Expands Family of Award-winning VPN Solutions To Securely Extend Corporate Networks to Mobile Workers
HELSINKI, Finland–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 26, 2001– Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the expansion of its award winning line of VPN solutions for seamless network connectivity. The extended offering includes the new Nokia CC5205 Gigabit Ethernet VPN appliance and Windows 2000-compliant Nokia VPN Policy Manager. This expansion addresses the demands of enterprise customers everywhere by providing high performance, encryption processing power, unlimited network scalability and bulletproof reliability. Nokia’s extended VPN line further demonstrates Nokia’s commitment to delivering a new level of security and reliability.
Nokia’s high-end CC5205 VPN gateway is its fastest dedicated VPN to date, with sustained throughput of 220 Mbps. When paired with another CC5205 for clustered configuration, VPN throughput increases to 440Mbps, making this VPN solution one of the fastest available today for mission-critical corporate and remote networks.
“For large enterprises and managed service providers, the extension of a network to remote locations can become one of the greatest challenges to maintaining a network’s integrity,” said T. Kent Elliott, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Nokia Internet Communications. “As more users depend on the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of the Internet for information, services, and a host of network resources, secure and reliable access is proving to be critical. Nokia is helping enterprises protect mission critical data through ‘zero downtime’ maintenance.”
Nokia’s Windows 2000-compatible VPN 3.0 management software, Nokia VPN Policy Manager, is a new upgrade available for all Nokia dedicated VPN gateways. The new VPN management software offers improved centralized management and extended software upgrades to remote locations. Managers of large enterprise networks will benefit from enhanced management tools, improved compatibility and a drastic reduction in time required to upgrade remote gateways.
The Nokia VPN Client now supports SecurID(R) and RADIUS authentication methods, enabling support for enterprises and service providers using these popular offerings.
Powered by its patented IP Clustering technology, Nokia’s family of dedicated VPN gateways eliminates any single point of VPN failure, allowing enterprises to confidently and effectively harness the Internet to connect corporate and remote network resources. Nokia’s VPN appliances provide unmatched reliability through active session failover and dynamic load balancing when utilized in the multi-unit clustered configuration.
Dedicated VPN gateways have become a key ingredient for large scale and mission critical network deployments dependent upon performance and scalability. VPNs provide a relatively inexpensive means of extending the corporate network to mobile workers, replacing expensive leased lines for site-to-site connections, and connecting businesses with customers, partners and suppliers. Infonetics Research projects that the VPN market will explode to a $32 billion global market by the year 2003.
The Nokia VPN Client software enables transparent IPSec protection between the user and the VPN Gateway, utilizing two-way authentication to provide the highest degree of security over public or shared networks. Bundled with the portfolio of Nokia VPN Gateways, the Nokia VPN Client software is optimized for remote access applications, enhancing the end user experience through simultaneous, transparent communication capability with multiple destinations.
Nokia’s standards-based VPN solutions are purpose-built platforms, designed to ensure secure seamless connectivity across intranets, extranets, or remote-access connectivity. For growing organizations where VPNs have begun to play a more strategic business role, Nokia’s family of dedicated VPN solutions offer high availability with seamless session fail-over, and scale to the most demanding performance requirements on the market. The Nokia dedicated VPN solution includes client software, management and deployment tools, and dedicated VPN gateway servers.
The Nokia VPN Client Software and the Nokia VPN CC5200 VPN Gateway are now available through Nokia’s Value Added Reseller (VAR) channel in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
