Baltimore Technologies Announces Support for the Cisco Systems SAFE Blueprint for Secure e-Business
BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 8, 2001– Baltimore Technologies (NASDAQ:BALT)(LSE:BLM), a global leader in e-security, today announced support for the Cisco SAFE blueprint for secure e-Business from Cisco Systems, Inc. Cisco SAFE is a flexible, comprehensive security blueprint that is designed to help organizations securely engage in e-Business.
Baltimore’s support of Cisco Systems’ SAFE Blueprint guarantees interoperability between the award-winning Baltimore UniCERT PKI and Cisco’s extensive family of Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices. This interoperability between such leading technologies enables organizations worldwide to issue digital certificates to all Cisco VPN devices including the Cisco Secure PIX Firewall family and Cisco VPN 3000, offering increased security and authentication for e-business.
“E-Businesses require scalable, manageable network authentication systems, and Baltimore provides excellent e-security solutions to meet these customer demands,” said Greg Mayfield, manager of business development in the Cisco VPN and Security Services business unit. “We’ve been working with Baltimore through the Cisco Security and VPN Associate Program to deliver enhanced network security solutions to our joint customers. With its endorsement of Cisco SAFE, Baltimore joins us in further securing e-Business networks for the Internet economy.”
“As enterprises and service providers kick off projects to roll out VPN infrastructures, they look to market leaders for assurance that their networks will be manageable, scalable and secure,” said Lila Kee, secure VPN solution manager for Baltimore Technologies. “The Cisco SAFE e-Business security blueprint, coupled with Baltimore’s Secure VPN solution, provides customers with a solid infrastructure and security framework. This gives them added confidence to cost-effectively roll out full-scale VPN deployments.”
Interoperability Brings Opportunity for Service Providers
Atlanta-based Intelispan, Inc. (OTC BB:IVPN) is a network solutions provider that leveraged the interoperability provided by the Cisco SAFE blueprint by creating its suite of Inteligate(SM) VPN services using Baltimore’s UniCERT and Cisco VPN Concentrators.
“We used Baltimore’s UniCERT certificate authority (CA) to integrate Inteliguard PKI into all of the services Intelispan offers,” said Kent Dallas, vice president of architecture & technology at Intelispan. “By selecting products like Baltimore’s UniCERT and the Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator, which adhere to the SAFE blueprint, we were able to successfully design and deploy a managed VPN system. This gives our customers the cost savings associated with using a VPN combined with the highest levels of VPN security available.”
The Cisco SAFE Blueprint
Cisco SAFE integrates scalable, high performance security services throughout the e-Business infrastructure, making it possible for enterprise and Internet Service Provider customers to design and implement intelligent, self-defending networks with high degrees of scalability, robust user management and provisioning capabilities.
Building on Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data), the Cisco SAFE blueprint provides a secure migration path for companies to implement converged voice, video and data networks. In addition, Cisco SAFE is enhanced by a rich “ecosystem” of third-party products, solutions and services, of which Baltimore Technologies is a market-leading contributor. The Cisco Security and VPN Associate Program anchors this ecosystem, providing customers with tested, certified and documented security solutions that interoperate with Cisco’s security products.
